5. Elizabeth Hurley and Arun Nayer’s (Not So Much of A) “Blessing From Heaven”
This was part two of Elizabeth Hurley and Arun Nayer’s 2007 wedding. The first part took place in a castle in England. Unfortunately, the weather didn’t call for rose petal rain so they moved the party to India for this photo-op and a whole lot of drama.
Inside Umaid Bhawan Palace in Jodhpur, there were “dancing white horses [and] walkways lined with millions of red chili peppers.” Outside security guards wielded staffs to beat back press and onlookers. Despite one guest calling the event a “blessing from heaven,” a local claimed Hurley broke an Indian penal code and insulted the religious community by marrying in a Hindu ceremony without being Hindu. Also three years later, the couple ended their marriage.
6. Katy Perry and Russell Brand’s Wedding Invasion
In 2010, Katy Perry and Russell Brand joined the Indian wedding invasion when they wed at Ranthambore National Park . Shortly after the blowout, an environmental activist filed a complaint against the couple, claiming guests “smoked, consumed liquor, carried weapons, disturbed endangered animals,” and generally threatened the lives of people and tigers. The complaint claims that a “male tiger, which already killed three people in the last two years, gate crashed their wedding area [due to the] noise and lights.” Nice work guys.
