Would You Read ‘Glee’ Star Chris Colfer’s Fairytale-Esque Book?
Chris Colfer, writer? The ‘Glee’ star has just released a fantastical YA novel, ‘The Land of Stories: The Wishing Spell.’ Are you putting it on your summer reading list?
Witches, goblins and trolls, oh my! Not only can everyone’s favorite Gleeker carry a great tune, but now Chris Colfer has also gone and wrote a book. What? We couldn’t believe it, either.
Titled The Land of Stories: The Wishing Spell, this 448-page YA novel puts a modern spin on classic fairytale settings. The story follows the adventures of twin boys Alex and Conner as they enter a land they have only read about in books, meeting many fairytale characters along the way as they try to find their way back to home.
Although the book was just released, the Internet is already buzzing about the literary skills of the first-time author. The New York Times claims that the combination of “earnestness and playful poise” will hit the right spot in the right audience.
As Access Hollywood reports, Colfer dedicated the book to his grandmother, whom he refers to as his first editor. After that little tidbit, how can anyone resist taking a quick dive into Kurt’s—er, Chris’—imagination?
While not a Glee fan myself, I feel that this book will be a great summer read, if only for the nostalgic aspect of it. Doesn’t a little trip down fairytale lane sound perfect for those long lines at the DMV or that hour-long bus ride home? A little escape from boring day-to-day tasks and into the crazy dream world of Cinderella and Snow White sounds like the perfect remedy to me!
Tell us: Will The Land of Stories: The Wishing Spell be on your summer book list, or is it one you’ll take a pass on?
