Would You Wear a Movie?
Eat Pray Love is coming to a store near you.
While the Julia Roberts vehicle isn’t hitting the theaters until August 13, fashion designers have been working on styles that’ll reflect its mood, hoping you’ll love the movie so much, you’ll wear their stuff.
Designer Sue Wong is just one of the designers and clothing companies who are planning on cashing in on the possible shopping bonanza. “When I read Eat Pray Love, I immediately identified with the story, as many aspects of Elizabeth Gilbert’s journey were synchronous with my own personal odyssey,” said designer Sue Wong. “Because of the immediate connection I felt to the story, as well as its emphasis on the culture, philosophy, and, in particular, alluring mystique of the East, I was able to create a collection that was striking, exotic, and timeless, and organic to the journey in the book and forthcoming film.”
You won’t be getting a look alike item from Wong. Her limited edition collection of embellished pieces will hit Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, Bloomingdale’s, Nordstrom’s, Lord and Taylor and Dillard’s, as well as on her own website on August 20th.
Don’t be surprised to find copycat and ” hommage” items from Eat Pray Love’s wardrobe hitting stores and websites when the movie opens. Of course, the big question is, what’s going to be the bigger hit-the movie or the clothing? After all Roberts, who is in her 40s is playing a woman ten years younger- can she pull it off?
