Zac Efron

Zac Efron won’t shake anyone’s hand throughout Andrew Goldman’s September cover story for Details, “The Agony of Zac Efron.” It’s not because he’s a Hollywood douche, it’s because the kid has poison oak all over his body, including his hands. He got it while jumping off a 30-foot cliff into a pool of water, brushing past the plant as he fell.

So, if you were expecting to see Zac emerge as anything but a genuinely nice guy in this cover story, you’d be disappointed. In fact, in every topic Andrew Goldman discusses with the Charlie St. Cloud star, his natural charm shines through.

On Shia LaBeouf being more badass than him:
“I’m so jealous of [him]… Yeah, that’s awesome to not give a sh*t. And Shia still pulls it off. That’s so cool. It’s just awesome. It just comes easy to some people.”

Note that this means that Efron is not capable of “not giving a sh*t.” He cares a lot about his career and how he conducts himself, which is more than we can say about Shia.

On Tom Cruise:
“He made so many great movies. I get the feeling that he works really, really hard. It didn’t come from swagger with him. It came from dedication, hard work. You see it in the way he physicalizes everything. You watch The Last Samurai and that’s him! He’s really doing that.”

See that? He’s even complimenting Tom Cruise – not many people do that these days.

On telling director Kenny Ortega he was passing on Footloose:
“I love Kenny with all my heart. It was literally the hardest phone call I’ve ever made.”

Zac has done the unthinkable and has said the word “love” when talking about another man in Hollywood. But, coming from his mouth, this statement isn’t controversial, it’s endearing.

On not being a Hollywood player:
“Bathe in p*ssy? Yeah, everyone tells me that. I think a lot of guys would enjoy that. But I’m not really like that… Believe me, I rack my brain thinking, ‘Why am I not out there playing the field?’ One of my buddies was like, ‘You have no idea what’s going on right now. You’re peaking on Ecstasy and you’re watching TV.’ But it’s not in my heart.”

OK, aside from the fact that he said the dreaded “P” word, Zac has made every woman’s heart melt with this statement, especially girlfriend Vanessa Hudgens’. You mean there’s a straight, famous actor out there who is not only gorgeous, but doesn’t take advantage of that by sleeping with hundreds of women? He actually likes being a one-man guy, because that’s what’s “in is heart?” We don’t care if he was just caught in a strip club, we believe Zac when he says he’s not that type of person.

And our crush on him just got a little bit stronger. (Details)
