It’s that time again, Bettys: My head has yet again become a science experiment. But hey, at least it’s a fun science experiment! You see, a whole bunch of fantastic Bangstyle hair products ($15 – $20, available at professional salons only) just landed in our mailbox, so of course I had to test them out! Bangstyle is an independently produced artisan hair care range developed by artists for stylists and trendsetters worldwide. The goal is to give you the tools you need to create the ‘do you want. Neat, right? And even better, all of Bangstyle’s products feature color safe formulas with no parbens, solfates, and sodium chloride—plus they include sunscreen to protect your locks from the sun. Now, on with the show!

First, a surprise. Are you ready for this?

I used a volumizing shampoo.

I know, I know: What?! Volumizing shampoo? Isn’t that the last thing that a person with Hermione Granger hair should be using? Usually the answer to this question is yes, but hear me out.

Since I break out my trusty flatiron pretty much whenever I wear my hair down, I can usually get it to behave as long as I expend enough energy beating it into submission. But as we all know, sometimes flatirons have the unfortunate side of effect of not just straightening hair, but also making it… well, flat. Flat in that “limp, wet noodle” kind of way. But here is what I discovered: Lathering up my unruly locks with Bangstyle’s Volumizing Shampoo ($15) and Conditioner ($16) combo, then hitting it with a flatiron helps it keeps its body while it goes through the literal ringer. The result? Straight, tame hair without losing all that gorgeous bounce!

Before I hit my hair with the blow dryer or the straightening iron, though, there’s one more step first: A dose of Bangstyle’s Smoothing Lotion ($20). Rather than using silicone, this stuff relies on olive oil and keratin amino acids to tame your locks; it also amps up the shine factor, as well as adding just enough holding power to keep everything in place.

Bangstyle has a whole range of products, from shampoos and conditioners to matte clay and sea salt mist, so odds are there’s something there that will be perfect for your hair type. Alas, they’re only available at professional salons; however, Bangstyle’s handy location guide will let you know which locations near you at which you can get them. Bangstyle’s website is worth checking out all on its own, too—it’s about way more than just hair. It’s a whole community, and there’s some fantastic editorial stuff to browse.

What are you waiting for? Get stylin’!
