Beauty Road Test: Get Gorgeous Skin With The Body Shop’s Tea Tree Collection
You probably knew that tea tree oil is terrific for your hair and scalp—but did you know that’s great for your skin, too? Give The Body Shop’s Tea Tree Collection a shot!
You probably knew that tea tree oil is terrific for your hair and scalp; but did you know that it can work wonders on your face, too? We didn’t—until it wound up in our mailbox and we got a chance to give it a try!
The Body Shop’s Tea Tree Collection ($9 – $18, thebodyshop-usa.com) combats skin problems with the power of tea tree oil A natural cleanser, purifier, and anti-bacterial sourced from the edge of the Mount Kenya National Park, this magic ingredient is both Community Fair Trade and fabulous. What’s not to love?
As BettyConfidential’s resident problem skin child (see what we did there?), I got to test the collection out. The first step to clear skin is always giving your face a good wash, so first up, we’ve got the Tea Tree Skin Clearing Foaming Cleanser ($13, thebodyshop-usa.com). A gentle cleanser, I’ve been using it mostly at night—it’s great for removing makeup, getting rid of impurities, and giving your face a shot of tingling refreshment. I’m also a sucker for foaming soaps and washes, but maybe that’s just me.
Next, it’s time to tone. Soaking a cotton ball in the Tea Tree Skin Clearing Toner ($11, thebodyshop-usa.com) and giving your face a good swipe with it will get rid of any gunk you missed while washing your face. It also gives skin a shine-free finish, leaving it a perfect blank canvas for makeup or other skincare goodies—or just leaving it fresh and clean, period!
There’s one more step to go before applying makeup, though, and this time, it’s the brand-new Tea Tree Pore Minimiser ($18, thebodyshop-usa.com). Although I have fairly sizeable pores, they don’t usually bother me too much; after nearly three decades of having my… shall we say, unique schnozz staring back at me every time I look in the mirror, I’ve gotten used to them. But this pore minimizer? It’s like magic! Tea Tree oil has been clinically proven to reduce pore size and refine skin texture; it’s also a powerful anti-bacterial, so everyone wins! Spreading just a tiny amount of it across my nose made my pores practically disappear, as well as zapped any bacteria I may have picked up along the way. Follow it up with the Tea Tree Concealer ($9, thebodyshop-usa.com) finishes off the look. Bonus: The concealer comes in a tube like lipstick, making it the perfect thing to toss into your purse for on-the-go touch-ups.
My skin happens to be particularly blemish-prone, so unfortunately I can’t rely on tee tree oil alone to clear up all my spots; I need something a little stronger with which to alternate it. But going back and forth between The Body Shop’s tea tree treatments and, say, a product or two from Philosophy’s Clear Days Ahead set helps keep my skin under control without irritating it or drying it out—something I try to be especially careful about when the colder weather kicks in. Those of you with less problematic skin than me (and that’s probably most of you out there in Bettyland) will probably do just fine with The Body Shop’s Tea Tree Collection on its own.
Check the whole collection out—your skin will thank you!
