Summer is a time for driving with the windows rolled down and classic rock blaring from the radio—so what better way to embrace it than with bright, eye-popping nail colors with rock-inspired names?

NCLA’s Summer of ’69 nail polish collection ($16 each, ended up in our mailbox a little while ago, and after a beauty road test, we can safely say that these are the perfect polishes to brighten up the last weeks of summer. The collection, of course, is named for the Bryan Adams song “Summer of ’69,” and we can’t think of a more fitting moniker.

I tried out 8 Days A Week, a lovely blue lavender cream shade, though if blue isn’t your thing, no worries—the line also features I’m With the Band, a bright coral cream color, and Hello, I Love You!, a gorgeous fuchsia (this one has my favorite name, but that might just be because I sort of love the Doors). The best part? All of NCLA’s polishes are 5-free: That is, they don’t contain any DBP, formaldehyde, formaldehyde resin, or toluene, and they don’t test on animals to boot. Way to make toxic nail polishes a thing of the past!

Anyway, like a lot of natural nail polishes, this one goes on a little thicker than usual; but the resulting color is so gorgeous, glossy, and kick-you-in-the-pants that we’re willing to overlook the need for a steady hand when it comes to application. Best of all, it lasted for an entire week before it even started chipping (and I’m pretty tough on my nails—usually I only manage to make it about two days before I’ve lost gigantic chunks of nail color). Long-lasting, beautiful, and 5-free: What’s not to love?

Though I only tried out a solo color, these three rockin’ three shades would be great combined for a colorblock manicure. Oh, and in case you want something even easier to deal with than polish, NCLA has you covered; there are also three Summer of ’69 nail wraps ($16, with far-out names like Mixtape: Rewind. Groovy!
