Beauty Road Test: Philosophy’s Clear Days Ahead Skincare Collection
Say goodbye to blemishes and hello to clear skin with Philosophy’s Clear Days Ahead skincare collection!
It’s good thing that at least one of us on the Betty team has acne-prone skin; otherwise, how else would we be able to let our fellow blemish sufferers in on all our best acne-fighting secrets? Lucky me, that person happens to be yours truly—and hey, look! The forecast calls for clear skin and sunny days with Philosophy’s Clear Days Ahead collection ($18 – $39 each, philosophy.com)!
Philosophy is well-known for their yummy-smelling fragrances and bath and body products, but did you know that they’ve got one heck of a skincare line, too? Naturally, when the Clear Days Ahead collection landed in our mailbox, I just had to give it a try. And boy, am I glad that I did!
A comprehensive acne-fighting system, Clear Days Ahead has a couple of different steps to it. First, since all good things start with a clean face, give yours a scrub with the Clear Days Ahead Oil-Free Salicylic Acid Acne Cleanser ($20, philosophy.com). It reduces acne-causing bacteria and treat breakouts at the same time, and it smells delightfully of oranges while it’s doing it (we wouldn’t expect anything less of Philosophy!).
Next, it’s time to work some all-over blemish-fighting power. You know how most acne medications have that unfortunate habit of drying the rest of your skin out with your zits? Well, Philosophy has found a way to solve that problem: Combine a powerful acne-fighting ingredient with an oil-free moisturizer, and voila! Total acne-fighting coverage and soft, smooth skin, all in one go. That’s what you get with the Clear Days Ahead Oil-Free Salicylis Acid Acne Moisturizer ($39, philosophy.com).
Finally, give those stubborn trouble spots an extra blast of power. Finish up the whole routine with a dab of the Clear Days Ahead Fast-Acting Salicylic Acid Acne Spot Treatment ($18, philosophy.com) and zap those zits, stat.
As you may have guessed, all of the products are oil-free to prevent pore clogging and use salicylic acid to fight breakouts—and boy, are they effective. The Fast-Acting Spot Treatment especially lives up to its name; the first night I used it, I slapped a dab onto a zit that was just starting to rear its ugly little head, and when I woke up in the morning, it was gone. Seriously. And happily, the whole routine didn’t dry my face out the way most acne-fighting products do, thanks to the ingenious moisturizer. Everybody wins!
I didn’t try them, but in case your skin is in need of a little extra TLC, there’s also a set of Overnight Repair Salicylic Acid Acne Treatment Pads ($39, philosophy.com) available; a few swipes of one of these pads will remove dead skin cells and give your skin a dose of glycolic and mandelic acids to help heal your scars and shrink your pores. And, of course, as an added bonus, the packaging is adorable, with each product giving you a cheerful message about positivity and finding balancing. Adorbs!
Philosophy’s Clear Days Ahead collection is available at Sephora, Nordstrom, Macy’s, Ulta, Philosophy stores, and philosophy.com. Brighten up that forecast, because there are sunny days ahead for your skin!
