Behind the Scenes at the Send The Trend Holiday Photo Shoot
If you’ve ever wondered about the magic that goes on at a photo shoot, I’ve got the deets!
You know when you watch a TV show like America’s Next Top Model or a movie and they show a fashion photo shoot, they’re playing music really loud, people are screaming, models are fainting and there’s crazy drama, right? Well in real life, it’s actually really calm.
Back in October, I was invited to hang around, watch (and not get in the way) at Send The Trend’s holiday photo shoot. They were preparing to showcase their holiday collection aptly named Crown Jewels. I jumped at the chance.
Somewhere in the Gramercy Park area, up a few flights is a photo studio with white walls, bare floors, basically a blank rectangular box where it all went down. At the very back of the studio there were lights, screens and reflectors. Up front, a small desk, long black leather couch and a small group of people working on their laptops or phones. There was a table strewn with makeup. Jewelry, accessories, bags and shoes were heaped on another table.
Way before the shoot date was set, the team scoured stores and the ‘net for props for the shoot. They were determined to have a jeweled sceptor in a few shots. Finding one became a problem–who knew that sceptors came in so many varieties–guess Queen Elizabeth has it easy–they’re all pre-picked for her. The finally found a black lacquered cane with a rhinestone encrusted knob…from a gentlemen’s acccessory site!
Let’s talk about the models: One blonde, one brunette. Both are tall, gorgeous and very friendly. Hair was pulled up, hair was pulled down. Jewelry, bags. makeup and clothing was constantly switched in and out as each subject of the shoot had their moment in front of the camera. Things moved swiftly with a lot of laughter and oohing over items occurred.
Ever the snoopy reporter, I checked out all the jewelry. My budget’s now blown.
Here’s a quick video of what was going on.
You know when you see a photo of a model hugging a bag like above, you think that she’s wearing an entire outfit–now we know, that half of the outfit consists of comfy socks.
Mariah Chase, the co-founder of Send The Trend took a few moments to chat about the shoot, holiday jewelry and accessory trends and their new collection with me.
It looks like it’s going to be a glam and glittery holiday season. Me, I’m not complaining!
