Best Thing Ever: Tina Fey, Jack McBrayer + More Surprise a 16-Year-Old Fan
A 16-year-old aspiring comedian got a huge surprise when she showed up on a public access show: Personalized comedy advice from Tina Fey, Jack McBrayer, Zachary Levi, and more!
Meet Alyssa. Alyssa is 16. She’s also an aspiring comedian who one day hopes to break into the industry herself.
Now meet Chris Gethard. Chris is an actual comedian who runs a goofy, low-budget television show on Manhattan public access on Wednesday nights called (creatively) The Chris Gethard Show. It consists of himself and other comedians like Saturday Night Live faves Horatio Sanz and Bobby Moynihan taking calls from random (and sometimes really weird) New Yorkers, and has become something of a cult hit.
Alyssa is a regular caller on the show, so perhaps it’s unsurprising that she was invited to appear on a recent episode (it IS Manhattan public access, after all). But what she wasn’t expecting during the taping of the show was for her comedy heroes to show up and give her their best advice on how to make it in comedy.
Best. Surprise. EVER!
According to Mediaite, Chris Gethard has said that this episode is his favorite ever and that he and his crew did their best to give Alyssa, who he thinks is “really cool,” a fun, memorable night. We think he succeeded; there’s nothing quite as memorable as being able to rub shoulders with Chuck’s Zachary Levi, 30 Rock’s Jack McBrayer, Seth Meyers, Tina Fey (by video), and more!
Though Tina couldn’t be there in person—“I’m sorry I couldn’t be there tonight, but I go to bed at nine,” she joked—she prerecorded a segment from the set of 30 Rock in which she gave Alyssa a tour of Liz Lemon’s office; she also had 30 Rock writer Kay Cannon, who appeared live on the show, give Alyssa a copy of Women’s Glib, a book Tina said had been a prop on Liz’s desk since the very beginning of the show.
And when Jack McBrayer, a.k.a. Kenneth, showed up? Let’s just say that Alyssa was literally speechless with surprise and glee.
Chris Gethard? Major brownie points for arranging this whole thing! And while we’re at it, Brownie points to all of the amazing comedians who participated. You are all lovely people, and this will be something a young fan and future hopeful will remember for the rest of her life.
Check out the whole episode here—Tina shows up at the 31 minute mark and Jack (who will always be Kenneth to me) makes his appearance at 38:50.
