Betting on the Right Pony
Life change after 50
By: Lori Kirstein
Honestly! You’d think at the age of 50 I would know better.
Fortunately, that isn’t the case.
I’ve decided to leave the corporate world -and I will succeed in my next endeavor because I just read The Secret. The book spoke to me. It said, as Obama does, “Yes, you can!” And I realized that indeed I can! That, at 50, there’s no excuse for saying I can’t!
Dues-paying time is over for me. As Barbara Sher says in It’s Only Too Late if You Don’t Start Now – and I paraphrase – this is the time of life when you’re not only experientially equipped to do what you were put on this earth to most exquisitely do, but biologically equipped. Your body is no longer crying out for one more baby, and if you’ve done the family-raising gig, your kids are out of the house. Now it’s time to ask the Big Question: What do I want?
So today is the first day of the rest of my life, in that today is the first day I’ve firmly embraced the concept and the reality that I have officially left corporate life and am now going to use all my talents to their highest and best effect! I will be a successful, fabulous, talented, highly financially rewarded actress and voice-over artist. I will also be a successful, fabulous, talented, highly financially rewarded copy editor, acting coach and whatever else I opt to cull from my life’s training.
I’m 50. And I do know better. Here’s to betting on the right pony, finally: me!
