Breaking News: Dr. Conrad Murray Convicted!
Michael Jackson’s personal physician has been found guilty of manslaughter.
CNN has reported that at 4:15 pm ET, Dr. Conrad Murray was convicted of one count of involuntary manslaughter in the death of Michael Jackson. The conviction comes with a four-year jail sentence. When the verdict was read out loud by the jury’s foreman, Dr. Murray was expressionless as he heard, “committed a crime that posed a high risk of death or great bodily injury because of the way the act was committed or the defendant committed a lawful act, but with criminal negligence; and The defendant’s acts unlawfully cause another person’s death.”
Sentencing for Dr. Murray will be held on November 29, 2011. Dr. Murray’s attorney asked Judge Michael Pastor to allow Dr. Murray to be allowed to stay out of jail until sentencing so that he could take care of his business and family affairs. The prosecutors argued that Dr. Murray should be remanded and kept in jail until the sentencing date.
Judge Pastor sided with the prosecution and stated that due to public safety, the nature of the crime, and the chance of a flight risk, that the doctor will have to stay in the Los Angeles County Jail until sentencing. Right after the judge spoke, Dr. Murray was handcuffed in his chair.
On TV, former prosecutor Sunny Hostin stated that due to overcrowding of the jail, there’s a good chance that Murray will only serve two years of a proposed four-year sentence for involuntary manslaughter. In fact, she stated on CNN, that he might serve his sentence via house arrest.
