Bring Back Sixteen Candles

Molly’s up for it, are you?

-Julie Ryan Evans

I’ve seen Sixteen Candles about 16,000 times. I LOVED that movie and had nearly memorized every line at one point. A few lines to trip your memory:

Long Duk Dong: What’s a happenin’ hot stuff?
Brenda Baker: Can you remember to turn off the stove in twenty minutes?
Samantha: I can remember lots of things.

Geek: Not many girls in contemporary American society today would give their underwear to help a geek like me.

Long Duk Dong: No more yankie my wankie. The Donger need food.

Ahh, the memories!

Now, more than 20 years after its release (I swear it feels like yesterday…sigh) I still want more! There have been sequel rumors flying for awhile, and in a recent interview Molly Ringwald says she’s more than ready to do it.

“It was in the works,” Ringwald says. “It was something that I definitely wanted to do, but [writer-director] John Hughes wasn’t interested, and I didn’t feel comfortable doing it without his involvement. If we can get John to agree, I think it would be great. I think there are definitely a lot of people who would love to see it, and I would love to do it.”

And while my teenage love, Jake, http://www.celebritynooz.com/watn/michael_schoeffling.html seems quite elusive these days, I bet anything he’s still hot.

Readers over at Perez seem split–the naysayers saying it will ruin a classic. To them, I say, “then don’t go see it.”

Let the rest of us bask in the glow of the candlelight!
