Celebrities and the Big 5-OH

These women look good for ANY age!

-Mary Beth Sammons

“So … this is what 50 looks like” is the subject line of a host of e-mails I’ve been sending lately to friends celebrating (more like mourning) the big 5-OH. Always the champion cheerleader of the cup half full, I mean it seriously when I tell you that being a quinquagenarian doesn’t mean it’s time to get your bucket list signed by an attorney. It really can be a new chapter, a chance to invent your second act and soar.

That’s why I’ve created my own composite of you-go-50 girls to send to friends who are crossing that midlife barrier … and, heck, take a look: Who wouldn’t want to have the freedom and confidence these 50-somethings do? So, happy birthday, mid-lifers! Light the candles, put on your reading glasses, and revel in my favorite role models for making 50 the new 30:

Marg Helgenberger, 50, who plays Catherine Willows on CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and the current milk-mustache woman

Rita Wilson, 51, producer of the film version of Mamma Mia! (due in theaters July 18) and wife of Tom Hanks

Ellen DeGeneres, 50, who threw her own on-air birthday bash earlier this year

Sharon Stone, 50

Katie Couric, 51

Let’s face it – there are 30-somethings who aspire to look this good now!
