It’s tough to define “girlfriend.” It’s like any other love. You know it when you’ve got it. The more I’ve been trying to come up with universal truths about girlfriends the more I come back to small personal moments. To me she is the one who bravely picked up the scissors after I got a horrible haircut. It’s that friend who kept me company in a deserted auto junkyard while it took the better part of a day to retrieve parts. -I swear I heard banjos playing. She helped me wipe the snot and tears streaming down my swollen face when I couldn’t hold the pieces of my heart together. We may not speak for hour-long stretches and we are still having the time of lives together. She is the friend who sees the value of an experience based only on my enthusiasm. I trust her opinions as securely as my own. She’s seen me naked in all senses of the word. She’s the one driving so I can sail my arm out the passenger window. It’s that friend for whom I don’t think twice about doing all of the same.
Tell us about times in your life that has defined “girlfriend” to you.
