Dita Von Teese Dishes on Where She Got Her Inspiration for Her Dress Collection
Wondering where Dita Von Teese got the inspiration for her dress line, the Dita Von Teese Collection? Find out here!
What’s the question everyone wants to know when they talk to the hottest designers? Where they get their inspiration from! And Dita Von Teese, burlesque artist and style icon extraordinaire, is no exception. She launched her dress line, the Dita Von Teese Collection, at Los Angeles boutique Decades back in September—and now she’s dishing on how she came up with all her best ideas for the line.
Dita’s inspiration is actually kind of a no-brainer: She designed the collection the same way she shops for herself. The secret, of course, is going vintage. “I saw a very famous designer, who shall remain unnamed, in a vintage boutique in L.A.,” Dita told Vogue UK. “He was there with his whole team and they were taking pictures for pieces to inspire his next collection. I just thought to myself: ‘There’s no reason why I couldn’t do that.’ Vintage stores are where I buy all my clothes—I love the thrill of the hunt.”

Not in L.A.? No worries! The pieces, which run from $350 to $995, can be purchased online from Decades’ website, too. They’re all super glam just like Dita, who lives by a code of day-to-day glamour. You know how you never see her without a hair out of place? There’s a reason for that. “Anytime I feel like being lazy,” she says, “I think: ‘The day I don’t dress up, that’s when I’ll run into my ex-boyfriend—or worse, his new girlfriend. I feel better about myself when I look my best. I always find the time to put on my powder and do my chignon.”
