Between Sharon’s double mastectomy, Jack’s multiple sclerosis, and Kelly’s seizures, the Osbourne family has been having a pretty tough time of it lately. But are Ozzy and Sharon really splitting up because of it? Not quite. Here’s the dish:
TMZ reported yesterday that the former Black Sabbath front man and his wife of 31 years had split up and are currently living apart. According to the report, Sharon had shacked up at the Beverly Hills Hotel, while Ozzy had rented a house several miles from the hotel. To be fair, TMZ did state that “as far as we know… there are no plans for a divorce… at least not now”; naturally, though, they get the most mileage from gossip like this by playing up the “OMG THEY’RE TOTALLY BREAKING UP YOU GUYS” angle, so that’s the tone they’re running with.
Ozzy, however, took to Facebook yesterday to clear the air. He wrote, “For the last year and a half, I have been drinking and taking drugs. I was in a very dark place and was an a****** to the people I love most, my family. However, I am happy to say that I am now 44 days sober.”
Congrats, Ozzy! He’s battled with drug and alcohol abuse issues for quite a long time—such was the life of a metal star during the ‘70s and ‘80s—and even though he did eventually kick the habit, sometimes backslides happen. We’re glad he’s sober again. One day at a time, and every day is a victory. Good for you.
He went on to say, “Just to set the record straight, Sharon and I are not divorcing. I’m just trying to be a better person.” It’s highly possible that Sharon and Ozzy have in fact been living apart recently—but no doubt that’s been to help Ozzy get on the wagon again and sort himself out, not because they’re separating for good. Sometimes you just need to step back from it all—even from the people you love, especially if you think your destructive behavior has been hurting them. Ozzy finishes up with the following: “I would like to apologize to Sharon, my family, my friends, and my band mates for my insane behavior during this period… and my fans. God Bless, Ozzy.”
So no worries—Ozzy and Sharon are still together. They’ve been through so much together that there’s probably not much they can’t handle at this point. Match made in metal heaven? Maybe!
