Ellen and Portia Sitting in a Tree
First came love, then came marriage…
Break out the bubbly! Funny girl Ellen DeGeneres married longtime lady love Portia de Rossi Saturday evening at their home in Beverly Hills.
I couldn’t be more pleased for the beautiful blonde partners, who’ve been together for nearly four years. What better way to demystify gay marriage than by witnessing the delightfully disarming DeGeneres and de Rossi tie the knot?
Their drama-free relationship and wise words on the topic of same-sex marriage are exactly what we’d expect from DeGeneres, who made history in 1997 by coming out publicly on her sitcom, Ellen.
“I can’t wait to be married. I feel like it is long overdue,” said DeGeneres at this year’s Daytime Emmy Awards, according to E! Online. “I think someday people will look back on this like women not having the right to vote and segregation and anything else that seems ridiculous like we all don’t have the same rights.”
DeGeneres, 50, and de Rossi, 35, got hitched without a hitch, according to PEOPLE, in a ceremony attended by a small group of friends and family.
The blushing brides both wore white designs by Zac Posen. DeGeneres’ wedding suit included pants and a vest, while de Rossi stunned in a plunging ballgown.
Leave it to DeGeneres to diffuse any same-sex scandal by finding a funny way to announce her engagement, the day after the California Supreme Court struck down a ban on gay marriage.
Ellen broke the news on her talk show, proclaiming that she was finally going to get married…
After a perfect pregnant pause, she added: “I’ll tell you who the lucky guy is soon.”
Congratulations to both lucky gals!
