Seasoned designer Anne Bowen’s Spring 2013 bridal show on April 15, 2012 was like a breath of sweet spring air on an arid New York City afternoon. As models glided down the runway in glistening whites and gleaming champagnes, a ladylike theme softly shone through.

Sequins, lace, and jewels accentuated form fitting, lengthy gowns that exuded romance. With names like Charity, Virtue, Lady, and Regalia, these sweet numbers seemed like they had once made their debuts in storybooks.

Besides creating wedding gowns to remember, Bowen has also made Hollywood’s hottest leading ladies’ dress dreams come true. Her client list includes Kate Bosworth, Carrie Underwood, and Angelina Jolie. She’s been in touch with a number of heavy hitters, including prime Paul Mitchell stylists.

We chatted with Brian Hawkins, a Paul Mitchell hair stylist, on bridal hair tips and tricks. Even if you’re not about to walk down the aisle, these flowing ‘dos can be worn on just about any special occasion.

“The romantic theme has taken center stage,” Hawkins advised. “The days of contrived, very detailed hairstyles have been put aside, at least for now. Brides want to feel very comfortable and relaxed, but feminine and sexy at the same time. These are hairstyles that women could even wear to a girl’s night out party. To sum it up, less is more.”

If you want to snatch the styles from Bowen’s show, here’s what you’ll need to look just as fresh and flirty.

“Start with Paul Mitchell Awapuhi styling treatment oil ($25.98, paulmitchell.com), which will make hair shiny without looking heavy or oily,” Hawkins explained. “Then, massage Paul Mitchell Awapuhi HydroCream whip ($20.98, paulmitchell.com) though hair for extra volume and conditioning. Last, use Paul Mitchell Awapuhi Finishing spray ($18.98, paulmitchell.com) for a finish that’ll last but isn’t overwhelming.”

But if you’re leaving your hair to the pros, Hawkins gave us four pieces of advice to follow:

1. Brides should set aside about two hours before your wedding for hair. If you’re part of a bridal party, one hour would be appropriate.

2. Book bridal hair appointments at least six months in advance. You don’t want to deal with the headache of scrambling to find a stylist at the last minute.

3. Don’t forget to pack a small can of hair spray with you to tame flyaways. Paul Mitchell Awapuhi Texturizing Sea Spray ($18.98, paulmitchell.com) is highly effective for any soft, unfussed style.

4. Try out different styles before your big day to find the one that fits you best. And never let your guests touch your hair –it’s one of the quickest ways to ruin your flawless style.

With these guidelines, your nuptials will be fairytale-perfect. And who wouldn’t want to feel like a princess on her special day?
