First Look: Lady Gaga as La Chameleon in ‘Machete Kills’
Lady Gaga is set to appear in Robert Rodriguez’s next flick, ‘Machete Kills.’ What do you think of her character poster?
First an appearance on The Simpsons; now, a feature film debut? Yep: Lady Gaga is set to appear in director Robert Rodriguez’s next flick, Machete Kills. And hey, look! Here’s her character poster! What do you think, Bettys?
Gaga plays a character known only as La Chameleón—sounds about right, doesn’t it? The film continues the adventures of the titular character of Rodriguez’s 2010 action/exploitation film, Machete. According to the movie’s official synopsis, Machete finds himself recruited by the President of the United States “for a mission which would be impossible for any mortal man:” That is, he’s got to fight his way through Mexico to take down a cartel leader threatening to fire a missile on the US. We don’t know how Gaga’s La Chameleón fits into the story yet, but knowing how ridiculous the first movie was, we’ve got plenty more ridiculousness to look forward to.
The funniest thing about Machete is that it was never intended to be a full movie in the first place. The character began life in Rodriguez’s 2001 family hit Spy Kids; he later reappeared as the main focus of one of the fake trailers that separated the two features of Quentin Tarantino’s and Rodriguez’s 2007 cinematic experiment, Grindhouse. The fake trailer was so popular that eventually Rodriguez made the movie itself—and the film was even MORE popular, so now the idea has been expanded into what will become a trilogy. Machete Kills is the second entry in the trilogy; the third will be called (you guessed it) Machete Kills Again.
Shooting for Machete Kills began on June 10th; Gaga appears to have finished up her days on set as of yesterday, according to the following Tweet from Rodriguez: “I just finished working with @LadyGaga on @MacheteKills, she kicked SO MUCH ASS! Holy Smokes. Blown away!”
Tell us: What do you think? Will Gaga rock the femme fatale persona?
