Friends in Unexpected Places
By: Kelly Keenan Trumpbour
I met five of my closest friends in law school. Our little circle began as a study group during first year. We thought we could help each other stay focused on rising to the top of the class. Instead, our daily lunches turned into some much needed girl talk.
Among us there were three weddings, one birth, scary boyfriends and random meltdowns. In the midst of final exams, competitive job interviews, and demanding research papers, we turned to each other. Whether it was for support, comic relief, or misery loving company, we found an oasis together. Whenever one of us made bar review, landed a killer job, or aced a test, we had our own private cheering squad hollering and whistling behind us.
It’s been more than five years since we finished law school. Ironically, not one of us chose a traditional legal career. When people ask me if I would go through all the challenges of law school again, I have many reasons to say yes. Five of them are on my speed dial.
