Hollywood Has Daddy Issues
Is Montana Fishburne putting her rump on a magazine for Laurence’s attention?
It can’t be easy growing up in the shadow of your father’s fame. Always feeling neglected as he runs off to tapings and premieres, never knowing if people are your friend for you or because of who your father is, all the boatloads of cash and attention, nice homes and blue ribbon schools. Sounds nightmarish.
I don’t presume to know what went on in the Fishburne residence while Montana was growing up but one thing is clear– she is suffering from an Electra complex. For those of you who missed PSYCH 101, the Electra complex is like an Oedipus complex only where the daughter harbors sexual feelings for her father instead of the son for his mommy. Why else is Laurence’s daughter announcing to the world that she wants to be a porn star and plastering her well-endowed behind across As Is magazine? This is a classic case of a woman with daddy issues.
There are lots of different kinds of daddy issues taking over Tinsel Town. Another one is the beleaguered Lindsay Lohan with her abusive, mediawhoring father Michael. Why do you think she ended up a) doing drugs b) dating women (not that there’s anything wrong with that!) and c) in jail? The answer is d) daddy! I say blame him until you’re blue in the face. With a father like him she doesn’t even need enemies.
While the Lohans have an opposite situation from the Fishburnes because Michael has fed off his daughter’s fame like moths on a wilting attic quilt, the need to work out their daddy issues remains the same. Both Lindz and Montana are suffering from papa problems and it’s facing their fathers that might help them come through it.
Okay okay, maybe talking to the brutish nincompoop Michael Lohan is a lost cause, but therapy certainly couldn’t hurt. As for Montana, she should talk out her frustrations with Laurence– and then ask him to get her a real acting role.
