Drew Barrymore’s colorist, Gwen Stefani’s hairdresser, and more of Hollywood’s top beauty experts revealed some of their best tips and tricks! Read on for all the deets!
Psssst! Ever wonder what the secrets are to your favorite stars’ gorgeous looks? We sure do—and guess what? We’ve discovered a few of those secrets!
In honor of The Hollywood Reporter’s first ever beauty issue, a luncheon was held this past Wednesday in the chi-chi Chateau Marmont’s pentouse. The luncheon gave Hollywood’s top makeup artists, hair stylists, and (of course) stars a salute to their beauty know-how and expertise, along with commemorating THR’s top 25 beauty moments of 2012. During the event, a few of them dished out some of their best-kept beauty secrets. Read on for the best tips and tricks of the trade!
Danilo, Gwen Stefani’s hairdresser:
“I’m obsessed with red lipsticks. I love MAC reds because they make so many different colors. Russian red is my favorite, I’ve been using it on so many people, and I also love MAC red. I’ve been really into this blue-red thing right now—so try it out, ladies.”
Tracey Cunningham, Drew Barrymore’s colorist:
“I think that you should always get a blowout. People focus so much on, ‘I want to get my color right,’ and sometimes you see them out and they look terrible. It doesn’t take much effort, if you don’t have the skills to blow dry, get one of those big tool curling irons or hot rollers.”
“Day to day, I think less is more. But if you’re going out to an event or an evening, it’s fun to take a little chance.” Kind of hilarious coming from the woman whose hair takes seven hours to style, no? But we give her props for rocking a bright fuchsia lipstick (Funny Face by NARS, for the curious) while keeping the rest of her makeup toned down. She also added, “I don’t think there’s one tip you can assign, because everybody is so different.”
Hannah Simone, New Girl:
“I would not give up my eyelash curler. My lashes are so long that if I don’t curl them, I’m blind.”
Kate Walsh, Private Practice:
Kate’s beauty must-haves: Emu oil (or jojoba oil, if you’re vegan) and Christian Dior’s Crème de Rose lip balm. “I find [them] really hydrating,” she said of both products.
