When you think of Evangeline Lilly, you probably immediately picture her as Kate from Lost, don’t you? Raise your hand if you, too, have occasionally wished for those flowing, gorgeously wavy brunette locks she sported during the show!

But apparently having perfect hair gets kind of old after a while, because, my goodness! Would you take a look at that dramatic new ‘do the actress has going on here! Quite a change from the good old days, no?

Evangeline debuted her mega hair makeover on Monday night at the world premiere of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey in Wellington, New Zealand. Trading in her signature look, the actress’ hair is now short and shaggy with chunky blonde streaks. What do you think, Bettys? Is her new look fabulous, or is it a fail?

I’m actually having trouble making up my mind about it. I kind of hate it… but oddly, I kind of dig it at the same time. It’s pretty daring, and I have a healthy amount of respect for anyone who can go for such a dramatic change (even if I don’t particularly like the look in and of itself). Also, Evangeline is gorgeous, so it’s likely that she’d look like a million bucks no matter WHAT she did to her hair.

Post-Lost, Evangeline has been busily working on The Hobbit, in which she plays an original elfin character named Tauriel. Although we won’t see what Tauriel looks like until December of 2013—she doesn’t appear until the second film, The Desolation of Smaug—we’re betting that she’ll resemble Liz Tyler’s Arwen from The Lord of the Rings trilogy: Long, dark hair, blue eyes, flawless skin. From what we gather, Tauriel is warrior—in fact, she’s the head of the Elven guard in Mirkwood (where Orlando Bloom’s Legolas calls home). Neat-o!

Tell us: Do you love Evangeline’s new look, or do you loathe it?
