I’m Losing It!
I Tried to Drop My Son Off at
the WRONG Preschool
Oh what a day that would have been
-Julie Ryan Evans
This summer I knew I was really losing it. I went to drop my 4-year-old son Nolan off at the preschool where he was taking a new art camp. I had been parking and walking him in for most of the week, but decided on this particular day that since I was running late, was exhausted and hadn’t had any coffee that I would just hop in the car drop-off line.
He seemed fine with that, so I fell into the sea of minivans and as we inched forward and two by two the teachers came and got the kids, then walked them to their teachers. Then they came up and got the next two children and repeated the whole thing … over and over.
After sitting there for at least 10 minutes (apparently completely spacing out), the teachers came to my car to get Nolan and that’s when it hit me-I WAS AT THE WRONG SCHOOL! IN THE WRONG DROP OFF LINE-about to leave my child with people who had no clue who he was, at a school several blocks away from the one he was supposed to be at. I didn’t offer any explanation; I just looked at them in horror as I sped away.
Can you imagine what would have happened when I went back to the “right” school to pick him up and he wasn’t there?! Can you imagine what the other school would have thought – that I was some mother who abandoned her child … her child who should know his address and phone number, but that at the time didn’t (you can bet he does now!).
Just sign me up for mother of the year!
