To kick off the Olympics, here’s a look at some of the celebrities and famous faces who bore the torch this year. From James McAvoy to Rupert Grint, it’s a star-studded list!
It’s finally here, Bettys! The 2012 Olympic Games! Today, the Olympic torch ends its 70-day journey at the Olympic Stadium in London, kicking off the Games with a grand start. Over the course of those 70 days, 8,000 truly inspiring individuals have carried the torch all the way from Greece to the UK. We thought it might be fun to take a look at a few of the more, shall we say, familiar faces that have born it from one place to the other. Did we miss your favorite? 1. James McAvoy
The X-Men: First Class star lives in London and works in Hollywood these days, but James McAvoy went back to his Scottish roots on day 21 of the relay when he carried the torch through Glasgow.
2. Eddie Izzard
Day 60 of the relay: Comedian/actor/all-round awesome person Eddie Izzard posed in front of an instillation inspired by The Italian Job entitled “Hang On A Minute Lads” by artist Richard Wilson above the De La Warr Pavilion in Bexhill on Sea (and yes, I do realize that I just used a disgusting amount of prepositions in one sentence).
3. The Wanted
British boy band The Wanted carried the torch between the five of them on day 43 as the flame made its way from Great Wyrley to Wolverhampton.
