Justin Bieber Almost Caused a State of Emergency in Norway. For Real.
No joke: Justin Bieber’s arrival in Norway literally almost caused the police to declare a state of emergency. Talk about some crazy fans!
You know, I was going to try to come up with a really clever and hilarious headline for this one—something like, “Run For Your Life! It’s a Norwegian Bieber Emergency!”—but I gave up because the news more or less speaks for itself: Justin Bieber actually caused an official, police-declared state of emergency in Norway yesterday.
I… Just… What?!
Okay, perhaps more accurately, it was his crazy European fans that caused the state of emergency, and even more accurately yet, it was more of an almost state of emergency than a full-on, no-holds-barred one (thankfully, things never got quite that out of hand, though it was close). Here’s what happened, according to (of course) TMZ: Justin Bieber arrived in Oslo, Norway yesterday in order to perform four new songs outside the city’s famed opera house as part of his upcoming Around the World TV special. Naturally, European Beliebers from all over the continent therefore descended upon Oslo in droves—tens of thousands, says TMZ—and they did NOT go gentle into that good night.
Apparently the masses overwhelmed the police, demanding that the Biebs hit the stage early. And by early, they meant now. RIGHT NOW, DAMMIT. This madness, then, is what caused the police to threaten a state of emergency. Because, I mean, how else are you going to get the reins back from that many wild Bieber fans?
As odd as this may sound, Tweeting at his fans was actually a pretty good move; Justin’s Twitter account is the second most popular celebrity account in the entirety of the Twittersphere (Lady Gaga has the lead on him), so his plea was most likely received by a lot of the people in the crowd. Just in case the whole thing wasn’t already cloak-and-dagger enough for you, though, the Biebs was held in a secret location until he was helicoptered to the stage.
Weirder yet? There were 50 injuries in the madness. 50! 14 of which required emergency medical care! This is crazy, right? It’s crazy!
Video of the performance here for the curious:
And for the even more curious, here’s a video of the Biebs getting chased by his wacky fans:
I feel a little weird comparing Justin Bieber to the Beatles, but… well, you do the math.
Anyway. Just thought I’d share said craziness with you, Bettys. Carry on!
