Kate Middleton’s Wedding Is a Month Away! Who Really Will Design Her Dress?
Kate Middleton’s wedding gown designer may not be who you think it is. Here are our top 9 contestants, from Stella McCartney to … Victoria Beckham!
The most anticipated event of the decade is almost upon us, and Kate Middleton’s wedding dress designer is still shrouded in mystery! This past Sunday, The London Times reported that Sarah Burton, Alexander McQueen’s new designer, will have the honors Burton has denied it. She told British Vogue, “I’m not doing it.” And McQueen’s CEO, Jonathan Akeroyd also stated, “”No, not at all. I am the ceo. I would know if we were doing it.” Of course — they have to say that! Or do they?
Everyone is in a frenzy! British bookies are taking bets on which designer the Duchess-to-be will choose, and the odds are stacked against celebrity favorites like Vera Wang or Monique Lhullier. In fact, it’s collectively agreed that Kate would (quite naturally) choose a fellow Brit to designer her ‘I do’ day frock. But whom will she select? Here are our top 9 contestants:
1. Bruce Oldfield
The 29-year-old English Rose recently spent an hour and a half with Bruce Oldfield at his London shop. That meeting fueled speculation that he’s going to be ‘the one.’ He was one of Princess Diana’s favorite designers. Oldfield has also designed dresses for Sienna Miller, Barbara Streisand, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Diana Ross and Taylor Swift. Interestingly enough, he also redesigned McDonald’s staff uniforms in 2008.
2. Stewart Parvin
Stewart Parvin is the Queen’s official dressmaker (and lord knows Kate is going to want to appease the Queen Mother). He was also awarded a Royal Warrant of Appointment by Her Majesty in 2007.
3. Philipa Lepley
British TV hosts Davina McCall and Ulrika Jonsson adore Philipa Lepley’s gowns. They’re typically simple and delicate, but her clothes can’t be found in the US. Yet. Will everyone soon know her name?
