Let’s Talk About Cate Blanchett’s Dress at the London ‘The Hobbit’ Premiere
Cate Blanchett wore Givenchy to the London premiere of ‘The Hobbit”… but does it look a little like a certain other iconic character’s outfit?
Cate Blanchett? Love her. I pretty much always love her red carpet looks, too—even the ones that end up being sort of polarizing (like what she wore to the 2011 Oscars).
So with that said, let’s talk about what she wore to the London premiere of The Hobbit on Wednesday night, shall we?
Here, Cate is wearing a white Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci gown with long sleeves, a high neck, and gold shoulder and cuff accents (which, by the way, are straight from the Spring 2013 catwalk). It features side slits and an open back. She accessorized the look with a white clutch, clear ankle strap sandals, and a Van Cleef & Arpels ring. A simple, chic chignon, peach blush, and pink lips add the finishing touches.
Now, then: How do you feel about it?
I think Cate looks effortlessly graceful no matter what she’s wearing, and this is certainly an interesting choice; it looks a little bit elf-like, but not so much as to make it seem like she arrived at the premiere dressed as her character, Galadriel. And yet, at the same time, I can’t help but think that the whole ensemble looks a little bit like…
Looks like we’re mixing our franchises a little. And I’m apparently not the only person whose brain went immediately to this image of Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia upon seeing Cate’s premiere look; our pals at The Frisky had the same reaction — which, notably, I didn’t see until after I wrote this post. Great minds thinking alike? Maybe!
What do you think, Bettys? Gorgeous and glam, or something better suited to a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away?
