When you hear the word “presentation,” what comes to mind? If you’re like me, the first thing that you think of are a couple of Powerpoint slides, a few pictures, and basically a professionally-packaged blob of boring. Needless to say, when it was brought to my attention that Angel Sanchez would be introducing his Spring 2013 Collection via “presentation,” I wasn’t the least bit thrilled.

I’m not exactly sure what I was expecting, being that it was a fashion presentation—but whatever it was, I (quite happily, I might add) got the exact opposite. When I entered the studio, the first thing I remember feeling was surprise at the entire display. I knew that the models wouldn’t be in motion—instead, they would be standing on platforms—but to my astonishment, the entire presentation was completely and wonderfully appealing. Though the models were on display, rather than strutting their stuff, they weren’t the lifeless mannequins that I had imagined them to be; each dress or outfit seemed to bring them to life. Take the outfit below, for example: The nude top paired with that huge pink accessory and yellow cut-out skirt really puts it on display. It’s as if the skirt is saying, “I’m ready for my close up!”, don’t you think?

Speaking of cutting, someone was paying extra attention during arts and crafts class in grade school! A significant amount of the presentation consisted of clothing that was cut much like the yellow skirt. Doesn’t it remind you of those snowflakes we used to make in grade school around wintertime? Angel’s cutting takes the craft to a completely different level, but you get what I mean. My favorite is the royal blue gown below. I love how the cut-out design up top appears to be an accessory at first glance. I see a couple of neck breakings in the near future to get a better view of the lucky woman that manages snags this gown!

Parting thought: I wonder how heavy those accessories were? They looked massive!
