Mean Betty: Poor Gwyneth Paltrow Lost Her Record Deal

Aww, no country album for GOOP. Good thing she has her acting career, new cookbook, newsletter, and rich husband to fall back on…

Gwyneth Paltrow

GOOP must be feeling like poop today, kittens! Her record deal with Atlantic Records–the one that was supposed to turn her into a “country star”–has totally fallen through. The horror!

Mean Betty was reading her morning New York Post in between a naughty swim with the pool boy and her pre-breakfast martini when she caught sight of the headline “Gwyneth’s Music Deal Dead for Now.”

Mean Betty wishes she could edit that title to say “Forever,” but Mean Betty digresses…

Surprisingly, according to the paper’s source, there was interest in Gwynnie making a country album, but her ginormous ego got in the way.

“Atlantic bosses were very interested, and [Atlantic owner] Warner chief Lyor Cohen was very supportive. But then the talks halted and the deal fizzled out. There was a rumor that Paltrow wanted $1 million to sign, but that is a ridiculous figure. Atlantic is still interested in signing her.”

Poor Gwyneth. She just can’t catch a break, right kittens? All she wants is a measly million to sing songs someone else wrote for her. Is that so much to ask?

It’s not like she’s had a lucrative acting career for most of her life, a cookbook that just hit stores nationwide, legions of fans following her GOOPy newsletters, or a husband who makes millions as the lead singer of Coldplay! Sweetheart needs that money, just like the country scene needs another frail blonde’s twang dominating the radio.

Oh wait, Gwyneth has all those things already? And the last thing the world needs is another bossy, spoiled star entering the music scene?

You must excuse Mean Betty then, darling… she had no idea!

XO,

Mean Betty

Not interest in her because American Idol has 2 new country stars in their mist right now !!! They will be great !!!

Grrr… that GOOP makes me so mad. Why don’t actresses stick with acting, singers with singing and models with modeling? What makes these people think they are so cross platform talented as to even attempt such shennanigans?

Well, Gwyneth got great reviews in Country Strong for her actual singing. Not my cup of tea, but then again neither is country music. What Gwyneth has already is irrelevant. She should be compensated at market value, and her fame and name recognition does come into play with what that market value should be set at. What that market value actually is I have no idea – I’m not in that industry. But I’m not going to cast stones her way if she made a demand with evidence to back up that she’s worth it and that it’s the going market rate for someone with a comparable background. If you had a wealthy husband and royalties from a book deal, does that mean you should work for less than others with a similar background doing the same thing? I honestly don’t understand Mean Betty’s argument here. It just sounds like sour grapes.

People who are multi-talented have the right to explore and share those talents. I also agree with Catca… For a woman to command big bucks is great for all of us women.

    Leonardo DaVinci. ha ha

Why shouldn’t Gwynnie or anyone go for as much money as possible? Atlantic Records is hardly a nonprofit and labels are known for dropping artists without mercy. But having said that, I saw “Country Strong” and I wouldn’t buy her faux country music.
