Mean Betty: Robert Pattinson + Kristen Stewart Have Forsaken the Twihards (Boo!)
Are Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart + Taylor Lautner doing their fans a disservice by not showing up at the final ‘Twilight’ convention? Meanie thinks so.
There can be no denying, kittens, that one of the great joys of fandom is the glory of the fan convention. What greater fun is there to be had than joining up with thousands of other Potterheads, or Trekkies, or Hunger Games lovers, or obsessees of any number of other pop cultural phenomena to revel in your love of them? Panels, gear, friends, and costumes always make for an entertaining time. And let’s not forget the stars, of course! Conventions offer the chance to rub elbows with and pick the brains of the most important people involved in those very phenomena, from their creators to their stars.
But what’s this? The hopes and dreams of Twilight fans all over the country have been dashed to pieces? Gasp! Horrors! Surely it can’t be true!
But alas, kittens, it is. Meanie brings you heavy news today: According to E! Online, Robert Pattinson, Kirsten Stewart, AND Taylor Lautner have all pulled out of the final four official Twilight fan conventions planned for the weekends of August 25 (San Antonio), September 29 (Detroit), October 5 (Parsippany, NJ), and November 3 (Los Angeles).
Although Meanie isn’t exactly surprised by this turn of events—at least as far as Rob and Kristen are concerned—she still can’t help but feel that these three stars are going their amazingly loyal fans a disservice by not appearing at these conventions. Indeed, it seems even that they might be metaphorically displaying a certain rude hand gesture to their fans, which Meanie shall not describe here out of courtesy for her gentle readers. Meanie is by no means a Twilight fan; but is that any way to send out the enormously successful franchise that has both made your careers and brightened the lives of countless people the world over? Even the pool boy agrees with Meanie on this one.
Yes, Rob and Kristen’s relationship troubles might have muddied the waters a bit (a word to the wise, kittens: Never date your coworkers). But this is why one must learn to separate one’s work life and personal life. Should the two intersect—and in a work-related arena at that—it is of the utmost importance that one know how to set aside one’s personal issues and maintain a professional appearance. Rob and Kristen should still be able to talk about their work and connect with their fans, even if their personal romantic relationship is no longer in play.
Rob, at least, has been keeping to most of his other, non-Twilight work commitments; he’s been busily promoting his new film, Cosmopolis, which opened this past weekend. Kristen, however, has hidden herself away, refusing to show up at the premiere of her latest flick, On the Road—to which Meanie says once again: Kristen, put down the ice cream, get off the couch, start showering again, and get yourself back in gear!
And as for Taylor? Is the budding action star opting out because he now has bigger fish to fry? Or is he simply playing Follow the Leader with regards to his costars?
At least Creation Entertainment, the company which organizes the Twilight conventions, has made the effort to assure fans that a fun time will still be had by all, even in Rob, Kristen, and Taylor’s absence. In a statement, they announced the following: “The passion and dedication of Twilight fandom has been amazing and we’re out to throw one last giant convention, a final gathering to see old friends that have made up the Twilight family Although Rob, Kristen, and Taylor will not be with us this time out we will have a super lineup of other Twilight stars and the weekend will be filled with special events, movie prop and costume displays, contests, panels, auctions, parties, exclusive merchandise, music, and much more, including some surprises!”
“Surprises?” Kittens! What if this whole to-do is just one big charade? What if Robert, Kristen, and Taylor are actually planning on surprising the fans by showing up at the conventions anyway? What a wonderful surprise that would be!
Alas, Meanie realizes that this outcome is unlikely. But still, the Twihards can dream, can they not?
