AnnaSophia Robb

So remember way back in September when we told you about the Sex and the City prequel that the CW was cooking up? Well, we know for sure that it’s actually happening now, because The Carrie Diaries has just found its young Carrie Bradshaw: Ladies and gentlemen, meet AnnaSophia Robb!

Does her name sound familiar? It might; but then again, it might not. So here are a couple of things you might need to know about her. Ready? Here we go!

1. AnnaSophia was born in Denver, Colorado on December 8, 1993. That makes her 18 years old.

2. If her name sounds a little unusual (maybe it’s the lack of a space between the “Anna” and the “Sophia” bits), it’s because it’s sort of a portmanteau name: Her maternal great-grandmother was named Anna Sophie and her paternal grandmother was named Anna Marie, so her parents stitched together one part from each of those names and came up with AnnaSophia.

3. Her first professional job was a MacDonald’s commercial. Hey, everyone’s got to start somewhere!

4. Did any of you watch that made-for-TV American Girl movie from 2004, Samantha: An American Girl Holiday? (I did, but maybe that’s just because it aired during exam time my sophomore year in college and I needed to give my brain a break from studying before it exploded) Well, AnnaSophia played the titular American Girl, Samantha Parkington. One problem: The Samantha doll in the collection is brunette, whereas AnnaSophia is blonde. Obviously there was some hair dying going on here. Bonus fact: Shailene Woodley of The Descendents played Felicity Merriman in the second American Girl movie, Felicity: An American Girl Adventure.

5. Most of AnnaSophia’s work up til this point has been in the children’s film realm; you’ve probably seen her as Violet Beauregarde the blueberry girl in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, as Leslie in Bridge to Terabithia, and alongside the Rock in Race to Witch Mountain. Her first big-screen role, however, wasn’t a kid’s movie—it was 2005’s Because of Winn-Dixie—and she’s recently begun branching out into more adult roles with 2011’s Soul Surfer.

The Carrie Diaries is based on Sex and the City author Candace Bushnell’s prequel series, which follows the teenaged Carrie as she comes of age during the ‘80s (we can’t wait to see what the costume design of the show is going to look like. Big hair? Acid wash denim? Bring it on!). It’s being developed by Josh Schwartz of Gossip Girl fame and Stephanie Savage. No word when it’s due to air yet, but stay tuned!
