Love at first sight

I know I believe in lust at first sight, but love? I’m not exactly sold on the idea, mainly because I’ve never experienced it myself. I’ve never laid eyes on a guy and thought, “Wow, that’s the man I’m going to share my life with.” On the other hand, I have thought, “Damn! That’s the man I’m going to share the night with.” See the difference?

Apparently, I’m not like the majority of Americans who are tripping all over themselves with love as soon as they meet someone. According to the “Great American Sex Survey” conducted by the adult website Adam & Eve,  55 percent of Americans believe in the concept of love at first sight, while 18 percent are unsure and 27 percent just plain don’t (like me!). Of the half that do believe, 71 percent said they had experienced it themselves.

I don’t mean to be cynical, but what are the chances that these 71 percent are either a) in the honeymoon phase of their relationship where everything is rainbows and kisses, or b) in an unhappy relationship they want to get out of, but keep coming back to the excuse, “But we fell in love as soon as we met!”

I’m just saying, just because it seemed to happen right away, doesn’t mean “love at first sight” lasts. Then again, I won’t know until it happens to me, right?

  1. definitely love at firs sight! i met someone and we immediately bonded like we knew each other all our lives. it was instantaneous and we became as close as you can get, best friends, etc with out “hooking up” because unfortunately, he was already engaged and then married. but all of us are great friends. that was truly love at first sight–in a deep way–like soul partners.

  2. Yes, definitely. The best relationships I have had have been love at first site and I am still friend with them. I believe the same is true for friendships and business relationships. If there is no initial spark, there never will be. The spark can go out, but if nurtured it can turn into a wonderful warm fire that never extinguishes

  3. How do you describe love or clemency, fear or hatred, God and assurance? Do you think that they have fixed meaning for everyone and all human (that science will have to give and prove to all of us) Or that possibly each one of us has its own definition and has the free choice to describe as he please for himself his humanity and his own truth according to his sense of balance, just look for his precision and happiness?

  4. Generations have been raised from childhood on a diet of Disney fueled fantasies telling them that love at first sight is the norm so this comes as no surprise. Then again…neither does the divorce rate!
