My Favorite Saying

No Fits

By: Julie Ryan Evans

No Fits My 4-year-old son brought home my favorite saying from preschool.

“You get what you get, and you don’t throw a fit,” he proclaimed one day after I told him I didn’t want the lemon candy he handed me, that I wanted cherry. Touche!

It got me thinking about how I do throw a “fit” about a lot of things that are given to me, and really, there’s nothing that’s going to change them.

For instance, I’d love to be taller than my 5 feet 3 and a half inches (yes, the half is very important to me). I would do anything for thicker hair with even an ounce of volume; and really no one should be as naturally pale as I am. But bemoaning these things isn’t going to change any of them, so I might was well stop throwing a fit-internal as it may be.
