When trying to ski with young children, it is a lot of work.  So, the resort offers service details, which make for a great experience, such as complimentary use of pull-wagons throughout The Village at Northstar (often used to transport equipment), equipment valet, guest service guides throughout The Village.  Additionally, Northstar California offers a fully-licensed child care for non-skiing children ages 2 – 6.   This is of great benefit to parents traveling with kids who may not be ready for the slopes just yet.

In addition to skiing with my kids for the first time, for me, one of the best parts was parking my car for 4 days, taking me away from the daily hustle and bustle and just having walking access to everything we needed was pure bliss.  And for me, in addition to being highly productive at work, sometimes, I’d ride the gondola alone just to get that “peaceful silence” we all yearn for.

Ski school:

Famed ski and snowboard school:  Outside Magazine anointed Northstar’s ski school as ‘the ski school of the future’, and its professional instructors are some of the world’s best.  Additionally, its lesson options allow students to customize their needs and experience.  For instance, Ultimate 4 lessons are a maximum of four students; allow for more one-on-one time with Northstar’s pro instructors; and are customizable based on the student’s ability level.  The Ultimate 4 is available to both skiers and boarders; and the snowboard version is offered through the Burton Snowboard Academy.

Terrain-based learning features for both skiers and boarders are used at Northstar.  This means that in certain areas of beginner learning areas, the snow is gently sculpted in such a way that it allows the student to control his/her speed and movement so to better focus on the task that’s being taught.  Beginners benefit immensely when they are comfortable learning their new sport.

More accomplished skiers and boarders benefit from meeting with an Adventure, Guiding, and Learning instructor—during which, a student will explore more adventurous areas of the mountain and the instructor is part mountain guide.

Northstar Dining (both on and off the mountain) exemplifies our focus on laid-back luxury.  Farm fresh produce is incorporated in every dining location, such as the Zephyr Lodge, Tavern 6330’, The Lodge at Big Springs, Summit Deck & Grill, and beyond; slow-roast meats and poultry are prepared and offered daily at each location.  Additionally, Northstar offers healthful options at each mountain dining location, which is part of its “Fresh Picks” menu.  This means that guests who are watching their diet can be assured that Fresh Picks menu items contain a maximum of 500 calories and contain a balance of lean proteins, healthful fats, and nutritious carbohydrates—all with fresh, flavorful ingredients.

For those who are ready to splurge, the Backyard BBQ, located slopeside at The Ritz-Carlton, Lake Tahoe, offers fresh barbeque ribs, brisket, half-chickens (all slow-roasted), and fresh-baked flatbread pizzas and gourmet sides.  Anyone can enjoy the restaurants located at The Ritz-Carlton (both hotel guests and otherwise), which is a pedestrian-friendly gondola ride away from The Village at Northstar.  Manzanita is the hotel’s signature restaurant and offers Tahoe’s most touted luxury dining paired with select wines.
