Oh No! Halle Berry Broke Her Foot!
While on the set of her new film Cloud Atlas, Halle Berry had a little bit of an accident…
Oscar-winning actress Halle Berry has been hanging out in Palma de Mallorca, Spain lately. Why? She’s been shooting Cloud Atlas, the film adaptation of David Mitchell’s 2004 novel, which is being directed by the Wachowski brothers. But oh no! Tragedy! Yesterday, she broke her foot!
At least it wasn’t a big dramatic accident; a source told TMZ, “Halle was on the property where she’s staying and simply took a misstep. She heard a crack and then felt the pain.” Naturally, she headed to the hospital, where the doctors fitted her with a mondo cast and a pair of crutches.
This little incident isn’t keeping her from working, though! The Daily Telegraph reported that the shooting schedule for Cloud Atlas is being moved around to accommodate her. She can still film from the waist up, and there’s plenty of work to be done without her.
Cloud Atlas, by the way, is my favorite book ever. A structural masterpiece, it’s composed of six interlocking stories that never directly intersect. Somehow, though, those six stories weave together into a much bigger and grander story than you could ever imagine it being. Think of it as the literary equivalent of Russian nesting dolls and you’ve got the general idea. Halle is playing the Luisa Rey, the investigative journalist at the center of the third story, “Half-Lives: The First Luisa Rey Mystery.” The film also stars Tom Hanks, Jim Broadbent, Hugh Grant, Hugo Weaving, and Susan Sarandon.
All I can say is, they’d better do an out-of-this-world job on this adaptation, or I’m going to be very, very sad!
