Paid to Stay Married
For the love of money
By: Julie Ryan Evans
Forget love and romance, staying married can earn you some cold hard cash.
A new company is offering just that as an incentive to stay married-even claiming they’ll make you a millionaire if you stay married for 30 years. The CEO says he believes “there should be more perks to marriage than just love.”
So forget happiness; just stick it out just for the dough. I see a lot of separate bedrooms and interesting open marriage arrangements arising from this kind of incentive.
Of course, there are other incentives for staying married such as prenuptial agreements, liked the newly reported one between Jay Z and Beyonce. Apparently if they stay married for two years she gets $10 million and a cool million a year thereafter for up to 15 years should they separate. For each kid she pops out? $5 million. Of course, since Jay Z is reported to be worth more than $600 million, this seems like a pittance, and really the only way to cash in, is to get divorced. So I guess it’s only a temporary incentive to stay married and then perhaps an incentive to divorce at some point.
