Fresh and modern was the look created by Sarah Lucerno and her team of stellar Stila Cosmetics makeup artists at Levi’s fall 2012 show. Sarah Lucero, one of Stila Cosmetics leading makeup pros dished on fresh looks for spring and how to achieve the perfect brow.

BettyConfidential: How did your relationship begin with Levi’s?

Sarah Lucero: Jason Allen (makeup artist) is based here and he’s worked with Levi’s before, doing a few shoots here and there. He got the relationship going. I think Levis just trusted us as a team to create a look based on the vibe of who that model is. We had some ideas of going fresh, going modern, and going for a strong brow which we were all pretty excited to try.

BC: Speaking of fresh and modern, what is the specific look that you are going for with this runway show?

SL: We created this beautiful, flawless canvas without a lot of heavy makeup. It’s really one shade fits all; it fits men and women and really makes the skin look flawless without a lot of makeup. This was important because we wanted the models to appear active and approachable, very modern, so we didn’t want them to look like they’re wearing makeup. We neutralized uneven skin tones with a creamy and beige matte foundation that plays off the natural contours of the face. For eyes, we kept them very soft with a little mascara and calm colors, but the brows are very strong. Lips and cheeks are fleshy and caramel and neutral. The overall look is very approachable and hip.

BC: What is the one makeup trend that will easily transition from the runway to our everyday lives?

SL: For this show, I wanted the models’ skin to have sheen because I think a luminescent glow is so youthful and anybody can have luminescent skin. This spring and summer, I think we’re going to see huge illumination trends across all brands. It’s simple, it’s chic, and it’s very fresh.

BC: You mentioned that brows are strong in this show. What product did you use to achieve this?

SL: There’s a great product called Stay All Day Waterproof Brow Color from Stila ($21, sephora.com), which is a little waterproof pen that creates little brow strands. I am obsessed with it. I didn’t know how much I would be addicted to it as a makeup artist and as a woman. It really reshapes brows regardless of your shape and it stays because it is like a natural brow.

BC: What other products will we see in the show?

SL: There are a lot of vintage pieces in the show, so we wanted the makeup to have a classic look with a modern twist. I used In Stila Cosmetics Nude long-wear lip color ($20, sephora.com) which I pressed into the natural lip to remove redness and mixed with honeysuckle lip glaze. It is very sheer and shiny, but not too glossy. You can wear it with jeans and a sweater and just go. We wanted to play with textures that look really cool, so we went with these colors.

BC: If you had to give only one piece of makeup advice, what would it be?

SL: Wear what works for you, but don’t be afraid to pump it up with a little extra that’s right now.

Sidenote: We were given a cool makeup guide telling us all of the products used for the Levis show. In addition to the products she named, Sarah also used Chinois eye shadow ($18, stilacosmetics.com), Convertible Color in Lillium for cheeks ($25,stilacosmetics.com), and caramel prime pot ($20,stilacosmetics.com)for lips.
