Don’t you wish planning that much needed vacation was as simple as those Pinterest quotes? You know which ones I’m talking about. That typical beach scene with an endless ocean and sand paired with the words, “Just Go” scribed in the center. Or, how about that gorgeous redwood tree landscape and winding road with, “All Good Things Are Wild & Free” written through it. If only we could pack our bags, blink our eyes and instantly be on the beach with a cocktail in hand. Ahhh, in our dreams…

Instead, we have to put in extra hours planning not only the trip we desperately seek, but planning our lives for that 4 days, or (if we’re lucky) that week we will be away.

Fortunately, thanks to our team of travel experts, you won’t have to waste your precious time stressing over the details this summer. We’ve complied this go-to resource to help guide your dream vacation from start to finish.

The Baggage
When gearing up for your vacation, since space it typically limited, (unless you’re taking the personal jet, skip to section 3, “The Digs”) you’ll want to ensure every piece of clothing you pack, counts. As women, we tend to require a lot of items we just can’t live without. But the truth is, don’t we always end up wearing the same two items, 15 different ways? Who knew that scarf and skirt paired as dress and tube top. Hey! We make it work. When packing, I highly advise to pack versatile items that you can layer. I recommend packing solid colors and basic items such as a cotton dress, various racer back tanks or T-shirts, a pair of dark and light jeans, and shorts, in addition to one or two fun items such as a floral print dress or your fave romper. It’s a must that these “fun” items can be dressed-up or dressed down. This way, you can wear them on multiple occasions. This might sound silly, but while I pack, I constantly ask myself these questions (yes, out-loud):

  • “Can this work from day to night?”
  • “Will this get dirty easy or absorb various smells?” (you can’t re-wear an item if it smells like that delicious garlic pizza you ate)
  • “How many ways can I wear this?”

Depending on the destination, this is a flawless system that provides endless #ootd (outfit of the day) options.

Travel
The Flight
So, you found the ULTIMATE deal and your flights are booked. The hardest part is done. Phew! Your next task, plan for the flight. Travelers often overlook this step and it tends to be the most influential within the overall travel experience. Whether your destination is only a few hours or possibly a long 12 hours away, being a savvy flyer can really help jumpstart your vacation. Here’s a checklist I would use when prepping for the flight:

1. Snacks: You don’t need to blow your diet or appetites by succumbing to airline food. #yuck. I say make and pack your own! Some of my must-haves are banana chips, homemade trail mix, Larabars, and beef jerky. I’m even known to pack full meals such as steak salad (dressing on the side), and hard boiled eggs. Yes, that is me stinking up the plane. YOLO!

2. A Comfy pillow and eyeshade: You might need to get some shuteye on that long flight to your final destination. Be sure to bring a small comfortable pillow and eyeshade to block any unwanted light, such as that neighbor’s neon reading light. I recommend an aromatherapy neck pillow. The lavender infused selection will help you naturally relax and sleep soundly.

3. Water: Since you can’t bring water pass security, you will want to put aside some time to purchase a few water bottles from inside your airport terminal. Or, if you have room, feel free to pack your favorite reusable Keen Kanteen. Staying hydrated before, during and after your flight, will not only help your skin look fresh and glowing when you land, but, it will also ease jet lag and fatigue. Charles Platkin, Ph.D., editor of DietDetective.com states that, “skin tone improves with adequate hydration,” and that passengers should avoid alcohol and caffeine, as both can interfere with hydrating and can interrupt your sleep cycle.
