Finding inspiration at the movies

By: Mary Beth Sammons

Finding our place in the daily rhythm of life isn’t always easy. I find unexpected signposts – inspiring messages that help me feel more connected – in the everyday. Many are delivered on the big screen. And so, when I go to the movies, which is often, I arm myself with popcorn, tissues and a little notepad and pen. Get inspired by the latest jottings:

P.S. I Love You, on moving on after loss
“So now, alone or not, you’ve got to walk ahead. Thing to remember is if we’re all alone, then we’re all together in that too.” -Patricia (Kathy Bates) to her daughter, Holly Kennedy (Hillary Swank)

Definitely, Maybe, on breakups
“Whenever I figure out whatever it is I’m supposed to learn from all this, I will write you a letter.” -Will (Ryan Reynolds) to April (Isla Fisher)

Dan in Real Life, on expectations
“Instead of telling our young people to plan ahead, we should tell them to plan to be surprised.” -Dan Burns (Steve Carell)

Atonement, on hope
“I can become again the man who once crossed the surrey park at dusk, in my best suit, swaggering on the promise of life.” -Robbie Turner (James McAvoy)
