I have somewhat of a reputation as the go to girl for fruit-scented hand sanitizers and disposable wipes. Most people would refer to me as a germaphobe. Stick me in a room next to a sick person and I’d be breathing into my jacket –but I considered myself merely health-conscious.

That is, until I realized my makeup routine was anything but bacteria free. Yes, I change my shadow palettes and lip glosses regularly. I scrub my face with the best antibacterial formulas. Heck, I don’t even touch my face without clean hands.

But none of these steps really mattered because I had been forgetting the most important one of all: switching my makeup brushes. That’s right––my trusty brushes had actually been my skin’s worst enemy! All along, I had been ignorantly slathering oil and bacteria right onto my exfoliated skin, which can cause everything from unsightly blemishes and breakouts to full on infections. Eek!

I’ll admit that with work obligations and an apartment to tend to, soaking those innocent-looking makeup brushes isn’t the first thing on my extensive to-do list.

Luckily for my skin, I decided to try out Klix Makeup Brushes. At first I was slightly ambivalent, thinking that maybe I should take the time out of my already hectic schedule to thoroughly clean my old brushes. Would these be as soft as my regulars? Would I have to play mechanic every time I had to change a brush head?

These fears were soon quashed because after the first use, I was hooked! These brushes are so silky, every time I use them; I feel my skin begging for more of that feathery soft sensation. From foundation to blush, my makeup was distributed evenly with minimal effort required.

After only a few uses, my face had become noticeably brighter and healthier. Oh, and those irksome zits on my forehead disappeared!

Best of all, the brush heads have synthetic white bristles, which allow you to see for yourself exactly what you’re swiping onto your face each morning. This way, you’ll know when a brush is oil and dust-ridden so you can dump it faster than that two-year-old palette at the bottom of your makeup bag.

To ditch an old head, simply push the button on the bottom of the handle and release those dirty bristles right into the recycling bin. You read that correctly: not only are these brushes super-convenient, they’re also 100 percent recyclable and cruelty-free! On a side note, this makes birthday shopping for my vegan friends a cinch.

Each $59 Klix set, available for purchase online includes three professional-quality brushes: foundation, blush, and one for powder. Once you make that initial splurge, you can pick up packs of two replacement heads from $10 to $12. Or, if you’d rather start out with one and take it from there, you can pick up individual brushes (each sold with an extra replacement head. Score!). Prices range from $18 for a foundation brush to $24 for a powder brush.

You might want to make time to have Klix as part of your morning beauty routine. Your skin will thank you!
