On one hand, being open in your dating profile about your desire to have children is honest and will weed out many candidates whose life plans run contrary to yours. On the other hand, it may also scare away great candidates who translate “want kids someday” into “want to get preggers NOW.” 10 dating experts from around the nation weigh in on how you should approach the desire to have kids in your online dating profile.
Most online dating sites already let you choose this when they come to the family and lifestyle questions. If this option exists, choose it. If it doesn’t…say it! ‘Clearly, I’m here to find me a wife to bear me children someday’ or ‘Currently playing Auntie with my nephews and nieces. I’d like to believe that when I have my own children someday, they will be just as awesome.’

Yes! What I like best about online dating is the ability to share important information that may be a deal breaker but would be too soon to bring up on a first or second date. It can save you valuable time and prevent possible heartbreak. Commonality is one of the most important elements in achieving a lasting relationship. So if you want kids, I think you need to write that in your profile to attract a like-minded person. Anyone who is scared off by that isn’t a good choice for you anyway. The more specific and realistic you can be in your profile, the better chance you have of finding a good match.

It’s perfectly fine to mention this in your profile. Don’t be afraid of asking for what you want out of life! The right guy will not be scared off. Your profile is a brief glimpse into your life but you don’t need to cover all aspects. Focus on today and what is important to you now. Relationships have an interesting way of developing between two people looking for the same things at the same time in life. You’ll know soon enough if you are both moving in the right direction.
