Now that summer is but a chlorine-scented memory (for now!), it’s time to turn our attention to the gorgeous possibilities of fall and winter. I love bright neons and luscious corals in the summer, but when the leaves start changing, I’m ready for a more rich, glam nail polish pallet. Here are four of my favorite trends and inspirations for this fall and winter. I’m so glad I still get to play dress-up!
1. Winter white. Check out Cara Santana at the Hollywood Reporter’s Emmy Party. Gold + white = ultra glam! And, keep in mind that a great manicure looks even better if your hands are in good shape. I like to use Simple Protecting Light Moisturizer with SPF 15 on one of the body parts that needs SPF the most (but is most often overlooked): my hands!
Get the look with: Butter London 3-Free “Pure White Cream”; China Glaze “White on White”; Formula X For Sephora Translucents “Sheer Ivory Porcelain”.
2. The darkly glam look that Elle magazine calls “Nail Noir”, which means all the vampy looks seen on the Fall 2013 runways, like at the Zac Posen (left and left bottom) and Herve Leger; (right two) runway shows at Fashion Week. The fun thing about this trend is you can go with the traditional dark reds / oxbloods, but midnight blues and deep emerald greens also fit the bill. Seductive and mysterious!
Get the look with: Essie “Wicked”; OPI “Muir Muir on the Wall”; Julep “Oxblood Creme”; Essie Midnight Cami; Jin Soon Nail Laquer “Metaphor.”
3. Bright and Bold. Deborah Lippmann totally owned this bright, bold nail look for the Fall ’13 runways, especially at Lela Rose (upper left images) and Kate Spade. The key to this look is going bold and slighly unexpected — not quite neon but something that’s sure to stand out loud.
Get the look with: Deborah Lippmann “I Wanna Be Sedated,” “I Kissed a Girl,” and “Between the Sheets”; Clinique A Different Nail Enamel for Sensitive Skins “Happy”; Butter London “Wellies”; L’Oreal Paris Colour Riche “Not a Cloud In Site”; Marc Jacobs Enamored Hi-Shine Nail Lacquer “Snap!”
4. All that glitters. The the totally gorgeous, glittery beauty look created by Lancôme makeup artist Diane Kendal for Jason Wu‘s runway show was one of my favorite moments from the Spring 14 runways — but no need to wait until Spring to go gaga for sparkles! Take a hint from Queen Latifah at the recent “Black Girls Rock” event where SHE totally rocked in bronze sequins … glitter is chic, fun, and glam.
Get the look with: Ciate Paint Pots “Sloaney, Sweetie”, Lancome Vernis in Love “Gold Bubbly”; Dolce and Gabbana The Nail Lacquer “Stromboli”; Cover Girl Glosstini “Seared Bronze”; Urban Decay Nail Color “Addiction”
