The Hardest Job In the World?

P&G’s brand new commercial totally made me cry.

P&G Thank You Mom

Two years ago I had the adventure of a lifetime when P&G invited me to the official P&G Family Home at the Vancouver Olympic Games as part of their “Thank You Mom” campaign. I got to meet and interview athletes, their moms, and athletes who were moms — and it was, simply put, incredible and inspiring. Now that we’re gearing up for the Summer Olympics in London, P&G is at it again as the “Proud Sponsor of Moms 2012” — and I’m excited to be a member of their Stateside Blogger Brigade, which means I’ll be bringing you interviews, news and updates as our athletes get ready to head across the pond!

To launch their newest Olympic campaign, P&G just released this commercial, which, of course, made me cry:

P&G’s message is this: “P&G is the Proud Sponsor of Moms, not just the moms of athletes, but  ALL moms around the world. We want to create a movement that recognizes ‘mom’ as the hardest, but, best job, in the world.

“Whether it is waking up before dawn to make breakfast, doing loads and loads of laundry, taking a bus to a child’s practice, or caring for a child’s injuries, one thing is universally true for all mothers on every continent:  while being a mom may be the toughest job in the world, it also is the most rewarding job in the world.”

SNIFF!!!

By the way — my own daughter just walked into the kitchen where I’m typing this and said, “You’re CRYING? It’s a commercial!”

But it’s a great commercial, honey, because it really captures that essence of what it means to be a mom, to pour all that hope and love and hard WORK into something that’s of course more than a “job” — something that is at once the hardest — and the best thing in the world.

And I love that P&G is using the Olympics to focus not just on the moms behind the athletes — and the moms who ARE athletes — but all moms, all around the world.

Yes — dads are amazing too — and they deserve their own campaign! But this one’s about the moms. And if you want to participate, for every “like” on their Facebook page, P&G will donate $1 to the USOC P&G Team USA Youth Sports fund, up to $100,000.  This is part of a $5MM global commitment P&G has made to support local youth sports in many countries.

And now I have to go take my daughter to her piano lesson — who knows, maybe someday we’ll be in a commercial about amazing performing artists and their (gorgeous) moms!
