The Summer of Celebrity Weddings Continues: Cynthia Nixon Got Married!
And we’ve got another one: Cynthia Nixon married her longtime partner, Christine Marinoni, in New York this weekend. Congratulations!
This is going to be one of those summers where there’s at least one celeb wedding every week, isn’t it? Not that there’s anything wrong with that; just buckle down and prepare for lots and lots of wedding pictures (oh, how we love wedding pictures). And hey, guess what? If you’ve been keeping track so far, here’s another one to add to your list: Over Memorial Day weekend, Cynthia Nixon married her longtime partner, education activist Christine Marinoni! Congratulations to the happy couple!
The Sex and the City star’s rep confirmed the news to People, Us Weekly, and all the usual media outlets, stating, “On May 27, 2012, Cynthia Nixon and her girlfriend, Christine Marinoni, were legally married in the state of New York. Nixon wore a custom dress by Carolina Herrera.” How chic!
Three years ago, Cynthia and Christine got engaged at a rally to support same-sex marriage in New York—which wasn’t legal at the time. Last summer, however, the New York State Legislature passed the Marriage Equality Act on June 24, legalizing same-sex marriage in the state. Cynthia and Christine have been together since 2004; and indeed, they’ve been a family in all but name for all that time, with Christine giving birth to their son, Max Ellington Nixon-Marinoni, in February of 2011 (Cynthia also has two children from her previous marriage to photographer Danny Mozes).
The couple didn’t mind waiting until it was legal in New York to finally tie the knot. Cynthia told the press in 2010, “I’m enjoying being engaged very much. I don’t mind a long engagement, which this one is surely turning out to be.”
But now that the wait is over, they couldn’t be happier. Congratulations once again to the happy couple—and family!
