‘Tis The Season! 10 Simple, Everyday Things I’m Thankful For
Gratitude for the some of the little moments that make life beautiful.

Thanksgiving is over (already?!), and soon the holidays will be but a blurry memory, so I thought I’d pause for a few moments for some concentrated gratitude. There are the big, important things that I’m thankful for — my family, my health, having the luck to be born in a country where I have so much opportunity — but then there are also the many little things that make up all those sweet, precious, and fun moments in daily life. They can be easy to overlook in the hustle and bustle, easy to forget about in times of stress or lateness, so here’s an ode to the simple things that make life beautiful. Here are 10 of the ones I’m thankful for:
Texting with my California girlfriends. We live 3,000 miles away from each other, and while a phone call is the next best thing to a real lunch date or night out, so often these days it seems like we just can’t catch each other, or don’t have time for a full-on conversation … but we are able to have little quickie conversations via text.
My sparkly kate spade shoes. If I could sleep in them like I did with my first pair of patent leather shoes when I was 5, I would. I keep them on a bookshelf in my home office so I can gaze at them adoringly instead of hiding them away in a closet.
The moments I spent watching the end of my daughter’s ballet class, before it’s time to take her home. The smell of the ballet studio, the sight of all those beautiful little bodies in their black leotards and pink tights, watching my lovely girl dance across the floor or learning a new step … absolutely precious to me.
Hearing my husband laugh. He has the best laugh, and I love it when something really strikes him as hilarious and he really, really laughs.
Good books! I would shrivel up and die without books.
Great, inexpensive beauty products. I do have my splurges, but I love the excellent bargains even better — like my morning staple, Simple Skincare’s Mosturizing Facial Wash.
The view out the window of my home office. I’m on the third floor, and the homes right around us are mostly two-storied, so I can see rooftops and trees and yards. Right now the sky is a brilliant blue and a light dusting of snow covers everything; in the spring I’ll see a riot of blossoms, then the summer brings lush greenery and the autumn its gorgeous display of color. Then back to winter we go…
Fabric softener sheets. Yep — it probably doesn’t get any more mundane than this, butI love the way laundry smells, fresh from the drier!
The ability to paint my nails while I’m on the phone. Oh yes, this is a skill, and I’m thankful for it, especially during long conference calls!
Singing in the car. My daughter and I know ALL the lyrics to many an Adele and Taylor Swift song … but I’m also happy to report she can also sing along with me to Patsy Cline.
Tell me: What are some of the little, everyday things you’re thankful for?
