Today Is the Day
By: Kara Posner
I recently had a discussion with Aryn, the Betty Confidential numerologist. She shared her powerful insights into some of our modern woman behaviors. I don’t think she knew how directly they hit home and how much her words meant to me. I wanted to pass her wisdom along.
To paraphrase Aryn’s wisdom: Today is the day when we are good enough. That perfection we long for is a fantasy that keeps us in a trap. We put off contentment until we lose the extra weight, get more rest, save more money, have more time or learn that skill. We convince ourselves that we are not able to be happy, that we are incomplete and deficient because we do not have these things checked off our list. We hope in the future we will find contentment, peace and bliss, and while we dream of this perfect elusive day, we put off living and being happy today. When Aryn said all of this, I realized that I sometimes run that proverbial hamster wheel, too.
I beat myself up at times and don’t feel good enough. I feel chubby. I compare myself to others and think they have such beautiful presence or wit and feel insufficient, as if anyone but me is comparing the two of us!
Today is the only day I actually have. Today is what I have to work with. Today the world will take me as I am without excuses. More importantly, I will accept me as I am, and that’s pretty good.
It’s about making a choice. Will we choose to live life today or put off living to dwell on the future?
