Upside Downton Abbey

Have you been watching the latest season of Downton Abbey, Bettys? I was actually able to get my hands on the whole season when it aired in the UK in the fall, and all I can say is, DOWNTON ABBEY, WHY MUST YOU KEEP DOING THIS TO ME?

Happily, though, we’ve now got something to bring a little levity to the situation. Sesame Street, which is well known for its hilarious kid-friendly spoofs of not-so-kid-friendly shows, has added Downton Abbey to their arsenal. Check it out here!

The skit, entitled “Upside Downton Abbey,” consists of Muppet Carson bringing various food items to the Muppet Dowager Countess—only to have each thing fall to the ceiling before she can eat it because they’re upside down (they do live at Upside Downton Abbey, after all). Muppet Carson suggests that maybe if they turn themselves right side up, they wouldn’t be having all these flying food problems—to which Muppet Dowager Countess replies, “Don’t be ridiculous. We very well can’t be right side up in Upside Downton Abbey. It is SIMPLY… not done.”

So what’s a poor Muppet to do? Watch it and find out!

To be honest, I’m not totally sure if the skit is supposed to teach kids about gravity or whether it’s supposed to teach them about the importance of being flexible in one’s thinking; but either way, I’ll take it.

Tell us: What television show would you most like to see Sesame Street spoof?
