Weekly Celeb Wedding: ‘Kick-Ass’ Star Aaron Johnson + Director Sam Taylor-Wood
It’s time for this week’s celeb wedding announcement: Aaron Johnson and Sam Taylor-Wood got hitched!
It’s Monday, Bettys. You know what that means, don’t you? That’s right: Time for the weekly celebrity wedding announcement. According to the Associated Press, Kick-Ass actor Aaron Johnson and Nowhere Boy director Sam Taylor-Wood tied the knot last Thursday in Somerset, England. Congratulations!
The couple choice the summer solstice as their wedding day; she wore a Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen creation, while he sported a suit by Tom Ford. As a means of getting around what could be a complicated hyphenated name, they and their two daughters, five-month-old Romy and almost-two-year-old Wylda, will now be going by the name Taylor-Johnson.
Oh, also, he’s 22 and she’s 45. Cue the scandal sirens.
Sam directed Aaron in her 2009 directorial debut, the John Lennon biopic Nowhere Boy, and their romance spun out from there. The relationship has raised more than a few eyebrows right from the start, due (of course) to that big ol’ age difference—she’s 23 years his senior.
While it seems a little weird, though, it doesn’t seem nearly as weird as Doug Hutchison and Courtney Stodden’s marriage. Part of it probably has to do with the timeframe: Yes, Sam and Aaron may have become parents rather quickly, but they’ve been together for three years now; the Doug and Courtney thing seemed to happen virtually overnight. Also, Aaron was a legal adult at the time he and Sam started dating; Doug and Courtney got hitched when she was 16. But more than that, I think it seems less weird because both Sam and Aaron come across as real people. “I’ve got a wonderful woman,” Aaron explained last year. “I’m an old soul, and she’s a young soul.” Meanwhile, I’m still not convinced Courtney Stodden isn’t actually a Fembot or a 35-year-old performance artist or something.
Anyway, this is Sam’s second marriage and Aaron’s first; Sam also has two children from her first marriage. Aaron’s next film, Savages, directed by Oliver Stone and co-starring Taylor Kitsch, Blake Lively, and Salma Hayek, hits cinemas on July 6.
Congratulations to the newlyweds and their family!
